about

The Fantasist can be perceived as a blurry character, referring to Maxence Cyrin’s dreamlike counterpart or lyrical avatar.

The album, filled with multiple keyboard colors (the piano of course, a few vintage synthesizers, but also a Hammond organ, a harpsichord and a mellotron – the sam- pler’s ancestor of the sixties), alternating fervent and romantic melodies, moments of melancholy and ecstasy…

With a handful of lively themes french touch is at its climax in the album. First of all “Eye of the Storm”, a hit and the album’s only song with lyrics, holds such emotional power. Then, “Nocturne 113” fervently blends piano, Hammond organ and harpsichord. “March” and “Theme from The Fantasist” draw a tormented portrait of the author.

The pianist Maxence Cyrin was first noticed for his two cover albums Novö Piano, in which he revisited classic indie-rock, pop and electro songs, and Modern Rapsodies, dedicated to techno music.

Now he’s back with The Fantasist, an album with his original creations and instrumental composing, adding a romantic and somewhat cinematographic quality.
